A NOTE ON THERAPEUTIC ARTS

Therapeutic arts workshops are based on the premise that the simple of act of creating is beneficial for our wellbeing.

Although at times similar to parts of an art therapy session, the main differences is that therapeutic arts workshops are a way of engaging participants in experimentation and learning; while art therapy is focussed on using the arts to express and communicate something regarding a specific issue or therapeutic goal in the client’s life.

Therapeutic arts do not include a therapist-client relationship but rather an instructor-participant relationship and a chance to connect as a community.

Art therapy is a process directly related to learning about ourselves and working through our life experiences, while therapeutic arts are an opportunity to work on a specific skill or project.

Both may increase your sense of self esteem, agency and connection. It simply looks and feel a little different
